Anthurium was selected to be exhibited at the first-ever, "Black Artists in Manchester Exhibition weekend 2024"
This piece is inspired by black love. At a glance, you see an intimate depiction of a man and woman, but there is more meaning behind it. The man is holding the woman with care like she is a delicate flower. Black women usually have to be strong in their day-to-day lives; in love, they can be vulnerable in the best way. Men although they are strong, can be gentle and attentive. The plant between them is the anthurium, which can thrive in hot or cold weather. It signifies that black love can persevere no matter the season. I've used a lot of warm tones to signify love and passion, but I have also used cool tones on this intimate painting to further emphasise how no matter the situation, when we take the time to love and take care of each other properly, we can blossom into something beautiful, just like the anthurium plant.
